A bride-to-be had aShrek-themed bachelorette party.
“I’ve always loved theShrekmovies and the theme felt nostalgic, fun and unexpected,” Garza tells PEOPLE. “With so many characters to choose from, it gave my friends the freedom to pick their own costumes and really embrace their character. It turned out to be so hilarious and everyone got to tap into their inner child, which was so important to me because we’re adults making big adult decisions, such as getting married!”

The party, which was held at a local Airbnb, had funShrek-themed food, drinks, activities and decorations.
Partygoers played a Shrekified version of “Pin the Tail on the Donkey,” in which they blindly stuck a tail onto Donkey, whose face was replaced with that of Garza’s fiancé.
Also on the walls were “WANTED” flyers of Shrek, The Three Little Pigs and other fairytale creatures from the movie. Everyone took silly pictures in front of two backdrops — a pink tapestry of a girly Shrek that read “Get Out of My Swamp” and a pink foil fringe curtain with a green banner that spelled out the party slogan, “Last Romp in the Swamp.”
“For décor, we wanted to keep the typicalShrekgreen color mixed in with pink accents for that girly fun touch,” Garza says. “We had wood-like table covers, pink bows hanging down the food area, and sunflowers, slugs and onions scattered around the tables for decoration.”
Finger foods included waffles, chicken nuggets, pigs in a blanket, a charcuterie board and more. CustomShrek-themed sugar cookies were frosted to look like characters from the movie, such as Fiona and Gingerbread Man, or had fun phrases like “Once upon a time, there was a princess named Aileen,” “Aileen’s Last Romp in the Swamp” and “Same Farts Forever.”

The mixed drinks in mini potion bottles were the literal buzz of the party. Guests loved sipping on the green “Get Shrek’d” concoction and pink “Fiona’s Love Potion.”
“When I got engaged, I always knew I wanted my bachelorette party to have a funny or silly theme,” Garza says. “I never wanted the typical attire that comes to mind when you think of a bachelorette party.”

“Overall, the meaning of theShrekmovies is about falling in love with someone’s personality and soul. And most importantly, loving yourself in order to successfully love others,” she says. “This felt like a perfect theme for my bachelorette because these are things I value most.”

Afterward, the group continued the celebration at clubs in Old Town Scottsdale “where theShrekdeleted scenes happened,” the bride jokes.
Garza will tie the knot with Matthew Bell, 25, on March 12 during an intimate elopement at Tuileries Garden in Paris, France. The high school swim team rivals met at a practice pool in 2017 and started dating their freshman year of college. Bell privately proposed to Garza aboard a dinner cruise in San Diego on Jan. 2, 2023.
WithShrek 5set to release on July 1, 2026, Bell and Garza will get to enjoy the new movie as husband and wife.
