Brian Setzer is giving a candid health update.
The Stray Cats guitarist, 65, penned a heartfelt note to fans on Friday, Feb. 14,revealing on InstagramandXthat he was recently diagnosed with an auto-immune disease and cannot play guitar.
“Hi everybody, I just wanted to check in with you all. Towards the end of the last Stray Cats tour I noticed that my hands were cramping up,” he wrote about the band’s summer 2024 tour.
“I’ve since discovered that I have an auto-immune disease. I cannot play guitar,” he revealed. Setzer described the sensation as “wearing a pair of gloves when I try to play” and confirmed he does not have pain.

“I have seen some progress in that I can hold a pen and tie my shoes. I know this sounds ridiculous, but I was at a point where I couldn’t even do that,” he shared. “Luckily, I have the best hospital in the world down the block from me. It’s called the Mayo Clinic.”
“I know I will beat this, it will just take some time,” he concluded. “I love you all, Brian.”
Several people commented on Setzer’s announcement, offering their support, including musicians Steve Vai and Chris Cheney.
Vai wrote: “Brother Brian, you are a soldier! Take your time, you’re on the mend, and we are all eager for your full recovery to optimum health. much love to you.”

The musician, who won a Grammy for his orchestra’s cover of “Jump Jive an’ Wail,” did not specify his exact diagnosis.Cleveland Clinicdescribes autoimmune diseases as “health conditions that happen when your immune system attacks your body instead of defending it.”
There are more than 100 different autoimmune diseases, typically divided into seven categories: joints, muscles, skin, blood vessels, digestive system, endocrine system and nervous system.
