Brandi Carlileisn’t afraid of getting political.
The Americana singer made a statement with her 2018 album,By the Way, I Forgive You— and she opened up about the acclaimed album Sunday night ahead of the 61st annualGrammy Awards.
She added: “It says as much about our ability to hear these messages as it does our ability to articulate them.”
Carlile scored six Grammy nominations this year, including best Americana album and best American album (By the Way, I Forgive You) and best American roots songs, best American roots performance, song of the year and record of the year for “The Joke.”
She won three of those — best Americana album, best American roots song and best American roots performance — ahead of the telecast.
The singer, who shares two daughters with her wife Catherine Shepherd, also talked about women’s prominent inclusion in the 2019 Grammys nominations.

And the musician revealed who she’s supporting ahead of the 2020 election.
“I’m just lovin’ the girls,” said Carlile, noting, “This year to me though has been a really bright light of hope as a mother of two daughters.”
(Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand and Amy Klobuchar areall vying for the Democratic nomination.)
Carlile — also a Bernie Sanders supporter — added: “I’ve been feelin’ the Bern since before Bernie ever ran. The people that have followed in his footsteps have been undyingly inspiring to me.”
The 61st AnnualGrammy Awardsare broadcasting live from Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 10, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS.
