A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after the felling of a famous sycamore tree in England that appeared in the 1991 movieRobin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
“This afternoon, we’ve arrested a 16-year-old male in connection with the incident,” the policewrote on X(formerly known as Twitter) Thursday. “He remains in police custody at this time and is assisting officers with their enquiries. Given our investigation remains at a very early stage, we are keeping an open mind.”

The Sycamore Gap tree had stood as “an important and iconic feature in the landscape for nearly 200 years,” National Trust general manager Andrew Poadtold the BBC on Thursday.
In a press release on theirwebsiteThursday, Northumbria Police described the tree as “a world-renowned landmark” and that its “vandalism has caused understandable shock and anger throughout the local community and beyond.”
