Opening up toABC Newsabout the role, Wilson said: “He certainly has a Bob Ross look [but] I’m not so great at doing imitations.”
He added, “And as great as Bob Ross' voice is and his manner I couldn’t quite get that so I had to do my version of what I think a public television painter who has a devoted fan base in Vermont might sound like.”
Wilson also toldEntertainment Weeklythat he took painting classes with Bob Ross instructors and even had some help from his family to get into the role!
“My two boys [Ford, 12 and Finn, 9] joined in and we took a class,” he said. “All three of us did a similar mountainscape and I think they turned out pretty good.”
“I mean, they’re good enough to get hung up in my house, so that’s saying something!”
