Billie Eilishwasn’t sold on the blonde life.

Though the “Happier Than Ever” singer, 21, sparked new hair inspiration back in March 2021 when shefirst debuted her platinum locks, she revealed in arecent interviewwith theLos Angeles Timesthat the transformation didn’t spark joy within herself.

“At first it was fun,” she told the outlet. “I was really excited for the blonde era — like, Blonde Billie is gonna be so cool. But it did not go how I wanted it to go.”

The Golden Globe winner went on to explain that she felt lost in her new look (although athrowback Instagram postshared last December proves she’s a natural blonde).

“I completely had no idea who I was,” she shared. “I came up with this whole aesthetic, and I just got swallowed up into it.”

And even when she ditched her lighter hair color in exchange for adark chocolatey shadecloser to her signature black, she still didn’t feel completely herself.

“I look back at that and I’m like, ‘Who is this brunette?’” she said. “A brunette! That wasn’t me.”

Eilish went to great lengths to get her hair as blonde as it was.

At the time, she gave a run-down on Instagram of what went into the hair dying process, which took multiple rounds over the course of a six week period and involved a cover-up wig for her performance at the 2021Grammys.

Despite what seemed to be a regrettable beauty decision, the seven-time Grammy winner didreturn to her blonde hairto channel vintage Barbie for the “What Was I Made For?” music video — albeit with a full stash of wigs on hand. “It was a full-on wig city,” she said.
