Last week, William and Charlene Guthrie, who live across the street from the Laundries in North Port, Florida, spoke to the station, saying the family loaded up their new camper and left town about a week after Brian returned home without Petito, his 22-year-old fiancée. On Tuesday, Bertolino confirmed the camping trip happened, saying all three members of the family arrived at the park on Sept. 6 and left on Sept....

In October,partial human remainswere discovered in the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, where authorities had conducted anexhaustive searchfor the 23-year-old fugitive. They were soonconfirmed to be Laundrie’sthrough dental records. An initial autopsy of the remains producedinconclusive results, and the case was handed over to a forensic anthropologist for further evaluation. While it was revealed in November that Laundrie died of aself-inflicted gunshot woundto the head, full autopsy results were not released until Monday....

During a court hearing Tuesday, lawyer Patrick Reilly alleged the letter, which he claimed was recovered from Laundrie’s backpack when his body was found, also alluded to his mother – Roberta Laundrie – “helping him get out of prison” and “some other things.” Furthermore, Reilly said the envelope in which the letter was found, allegedly read, “burn after reading,” per CNN. “I know that some of the wording that was used in the letter is unfortunate and might suggest that it has some connection, but it doesn’t,” he said....

They filed the lawsuit in March 2022 seeking more than $30,000 in damages for the mental anguish they say they suffered due to the alleged deceit of the Laundries, who didn’t return their calls and texts when they were trying to find their daughter. “A reasonable inference is that the letter was written at a time when Gabrielle Petito was as yet unburied, and Brian Laundrie could go to jail for the crime of murder,” Reilly wrote....

She added that she intended to “reach out to Brian” through the letter while they “were experiencing a difficult period” in their relationship. Also that she hoped the letter “would remind him how much I loved him.” The letter is at the center of alawsuit against the Laundrie family, with the Petito family suing over allegations of intentional infliction of emotional distress surrounding thedeath of their daughter. On Jan. 21, 2022, the FBI revealed that a notebook found near 23-year-old Laundrie’s remains included awritten confessiontaking responsibility for his fiancée’s death....

Laundrie, 23, was named a person of interest in the disappearance of his fiancée on Sept. 15, though authorities failed to declare him a suspect in her murder before his death. Laundrie and Petito had spent the summer traveling across the country in a white van together,documenting their adventures on YouTubealong the way — but on Sept. 1, Laundrie quietly returned to his parents' home in North Port, Fla., without Petito....

“I thought it was merciful, that it is what she wanted, but I see now all the mistakes I made,” Laundrie wrote. “I panicked. I was in shock.
