Instead, Berk decided that he “wanted to do a book about design that could help people and teach them that making your space work for you can really help your mental wellness....

Photo: Craig Sjodin/ABC He’s been elbowed in the mouth twice, and both times, he’s quick to point out, were his fault. “I had to fill out a lot of paperwork, because I got hit really hard,” he told PEOPLE after one incident that required him to file a dental claim. “There was blood and a tooth. I still don’t know what I’m doing. She was doing her spin thing, and she was doing what she was supposed to do, and my face was not doing what it was supposed to do....

“He was a little out of control, so nobody really wanted him,” Bones, 39, tells PEOPLE as he gives the blue-eyed, English bulldog a welcome scratch behind the ears. “He was too chewy. He was the wild one in the group. So I was like, ‘OK, I will take him.'” Indeed, for a guy who has long made a life and career out of taking on his share of challenges, Bones says that bringing a new puppy home didn’t faze him much....

“So, when it came to the challenges on this show, I was just happy I wasn’t having to do them,” continues Bones, who hostsSnake in the Grass, which premieres Monday night on USA Network. In an interview with PEOPLE, Bones shares what it was like filming for a month in Costa Rica and how hiswife Caitlin Parker Estellhas taught him to be more “vulnerable.” “I’m not a brave person. I’m not,” says Bones of filmingSnake in the Grass....

“We love home. We picked this place out together — that was really one of the first decisions that we made as a couple. And so she thought, ‘What if we got married here?'” Bones, 41, tells PEOPLE. With the help ofNinth & Everettowner and planner Josiah Carr, the couple’s backyard was transformed into the wedding venue of their dreams. Blooms fromStella Rose Floralwere everywhere while a “C + B” fromAlpha-Lit Nashvillelit up the area....

“Finished the dance, fell down, got too excited,” he said. “I think I may have hurt my shoulder a little bit. But the show’s still on, just want to say I appreciate all the nice messages. It was crazy, man.” “It was so much fun,” he added. “We’ll see you tomorrow night.” Speaking to PEOPLE over the weekend, he revealed he had alreadysuffered a few injurieswhile training for the competition with Burgess — most of which, he was quick to point out, were his fault....

“I think, in her mind, it was a pretty bad injury that took a while to come back from,” said Bones, who released his book,Fail Until You Don’t: Fight. Grind. Repeat,on Tuesday. “I think she feels that she looks different because she wrote that in her letter to the fans especially early on. She said, ‘I may not look the same.’ And she had reconstruction on her face but she looks wonderful....

But not so fast. “I believe that there should be stricter background checks and I believe that gun shows should not exist in the way they do now. I believe that if you are going to have a strong gun, you should have a bigger license, kind of like driving a car compared to driving a mac truck,” he explains. “Getting older doesn’t scare me but politics does, in a good way,” says Bones, who recently announced that he would be returning to the new season ofAmerican Idolas an in-house mentor....

On Friday, the 41-year-old radio and television personality revealed in a since-expired Instagram Story post that he will no longer serve as an in-house mentor when the reality competition series returns later this year. Taking part in a Q&A on social media, Bones said he is filming a new show in Costa Rica. When a fan asked what the series is, Bones said he would share the news “as soon as I can … The network hasn’t even announced the show yet....

But don’t expect this story to have aNicholas Sparks-style finish. For starters, Bones never asked the question that his millions of listeners, who are intimately familiar with his hardscrabble Arkansas childhood, would want to know: Why did his father leave? Bones, 38, feels he solved that mystery long ago. “I knew why he left,” he tells PEOPLE. “He was 17 when I was born. He left when I was 4 or 5....

“I’m never dancing again. I have retired from dancing,” the radio show host, 38, tells PEOPLE. “The dancing thing was crazy because I went into it not knowing how hard it actually was. Being around the pros and actually seeing them do their thing, they’re professional athletes.” Bones, who made an appearance on theDancing with the Starstour, enjoyed one final dance with his favorite pros. Despite having no dancing experience, Bones credits his seasoned partnerSharna Burgessfor the big win....
